Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
