Micky van de Ven Brace Ends Everton's Run at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine saves to ensure Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to review the goal on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two recognised centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
